Saturday Friends Meal

Lower Lights Ministries partners with Friends Ministry, a non-profit, non-denominational organization directed by Jerry Galbreath, to serve the disenfranchised and homeless of the Columbus area. We have discovered that homelessness in our areas is more than hunger and not having shelter – it usually includes substance abuse, extreme loneliness and depression, as well as spiritual fatigue. In an effort to combat these effects, Lower Lights’ volunteers head to area shelters on Saturday evening where they pick up our “friends” whether individuals or families and bring them to our facilities. Upon arriving at the ministry center, meal providers from throughout the city serve guests dinner.  Following dinner, we have a special fellowship/worship service where all are welcome to take part.

The goal of this ministry is not only to provide a hearty meal, but to provide a safe environment where socio-economic barriers can be transcended.  Participants and volunteers fellowship, worship and serve together in a way that instills respect and preserves dignity.  This ministry also presents an opportunity for individuals to discover other ministries that can assist them by providing valuable resources. The Friend’s Ministry is a very special time of service, teaching, and worship.
